Joseph S. OzmentOriginally from Dyersburg, Tennessee, Joseph Ozment, was a high school graduate of Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, Tennessee.  He attended college at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and in 1989 earned a B.A. Degree in Finance.  He attended and earned his Juris Doctor in 1992 from Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee.  He has been in private practice in Memphis, Tennessee since 1992.

Prior to his law practice he was a Judicial Law Clerk for the Criminal Court Judges in the Thirtieth Judicial District at Memphis, Tennessee.  He began his law practice in Memphis, Tennessee in 1992 as an associate with the Law Office of William D. Massey.  In 1995, he opened his own private practice in the Memphis area.  In 2000, he formed the firm of Ozment and Renard, P.L.L.C., located at 138 North Third Street, Memphis, Tennessee.  Subsequently, the office Ozment and Dalton was formed at the same location. 

The focus of Mr. Ozment’s individual practice has been primarily Criminal Defense.  He attended and graduated from the National Criminal Defense College in Macon, Georgia in 1993.  Since that time he and his office have represented hundreds of individuals charged with various criminal offenses throughout Tennessee.  He also has experience representing individuals on a pro hac vice basis in Texas, Arkansas and Mississippi.  At the trial level he has extensive experience in both the State and Federal District Courts.   Joseph Ozment is Rule (13) qualified, pursuant to the rules of the Tennessee Supreme Court, to represent individuals charged with capital/death penalty offenses.  He also has appellate experience in the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals, Tennessee Supreme Court and The United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Joseph S. Ozment is a member of the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, The Tennessee Bar Association and the Memphis Bar Association.

He is a former president of the Criminal Law Section of the Memphis Bar Association and a former member of the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Board of Directors.  In 1996, he was awarded one of the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers highest honors, the Robert W. Richie Award, for outstanding service to the organization.

In addition to representation of clients in all misdemeanor and felony cases in both State and Federal Court, Mr. Ozment and his associates also represent individuals in a variety of civil matters including, but not limited to, personal bankruptcy, personal injury, divorce and family law.
